Description

Would you let any parent show prospective parents around your school? If you are not embracing Social Media in your school then you are not only missing a golden opportunity to showcase your school, but you are allowing prospective parents to be given a virtual tour of your school by your parents. With Social Media an important aspect of so many parents’ lives, it’s never been more important for schools to embrace this and model how to use it. Your parents are already using it so why not fish where the fish are and tap into the world of Social Media to take parental engagement to the next level using free, easy to use and well established tools.

DeputyMitchell embraced social media within his school (Heathfield Primary) back in 2009 and notionally opened up the walls of the classrooms but gave the school community a global audience for learning. Come and spend the day with DeputyMitchell, where by the end of the day you will have:

– Completed a whole school policy on the safe use of Social Media
– Learned how Twitter can be an effective platform to showcase learning in your school
– Set up a school Twitter account
– Set up class twitter accounts (optional)
– Completed a teachers’ guide on how to use social media safely to showcase learning.
– Learned how Facebook can be used safely by a school to engage parents
– Set up a School Facebook page.
– Connected with other schools users of Social media from across the UK and beyond.

£160 for 1 place, £300 for 2 places

Presenter(s)

David Mitchell

David Mitchell has been a teacher for 18 years and has been a Headteacher of two schools in the north of England. David has always had an interest in getting children enthused writing. Ever since using forums in 2005 with his Year 6 pupils, to get them writing outside of the traditional school day, David’s passion for ‘technology enhanced learning’ has developed over time with his motto ‘If it can’t be used in 2 minutes it’s too long!’ at the forefront of his message to other teachers.
In 2013, David became a freelance consultant on a mission to bring blogging, social media and other technology tools to as many teachers and schools as possible.
