This two-part, mainly practical course is for Primary teachers who want to start using ‘Drama for Learning’ across the curriculum, with confidence. Learning through Drama is an interactive, collaborative, enjoyable and memorable experience. The course consists of a face-to-face training day, followed by an online twilight session three weeks later, (enabling you to try some of the ideas between sessions).
During the training day, you will learn how to negotiate a ‘Drama Contract’ with your class and how to set up and frame twelve key drama strategies for learning purposes. You will interactively participate in at least two drama lessons, designed for different primary stages, with progression opportunities highlighted. Each ‘teacher move’ will be explained, in terms of intended learning, (including ways to set up and use different types of ‘Teacher-in-Role’). There will be opportunities for reflective discussions about the experiences, practice and outcomes .
The online follow-up session is an opportunity for you to share anything you’ve tried out with your class, since the training day, and a chance to receive some bespoke guidance and support, and your possible ‘next steps’ You will also be presented with some additional drama strategies and be guided ‘step by step’ through another ‘Drama for Learning’ lesson.
You will receive copies of a drama contract, a drama strategies booklet, three relevant articles and three lesson plans, plus access to other lessons (published online).
