Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. (NC 2013)
Content
Aim:
To learn about music, through a piece of music, a story and a painting.
Participants will explore extracts from two pieces of music, one for KS1 and one for KS2 and explore a range of music making activities and opportunities that they inspire, with the support of paintings and stories.
By the end of the course, participants will:
• Be able to create similar music learning experiences for children in school
• Have contributed to their repertoire of musical activities within their curriculum

Maureen Hanke
Maureen Hanke is currently a research student. She continues to lead workshops in the UK and abroad, teaches on a post graduate certificate course in pedagogy and is a regional CPD and training manager for the on-line musical resource, Charanga. She is chair of governors of Mousehold Infant and Nursery School and a trustee for Music Mark. Formerly, she was head of Music Education and Director of Continuing Professional Development for Trinity College of Music, and Head of the Norfolk Music Service. Her publications include Music Express (2003) and Developing Music Skills (2007)
