Using Drama for Talk and Writing at KS2
19th January 2023 – 4pm to 5.30pm (UK time)
ABOUT THE COURSE
Patrice Baldwin and Pie Corbett worked together over several years, developing ‘Drama and Talk for Writing’ at termly conferences. Teachers do not need to be using ‘Talk for Writing’ to benefit from this online course.
This session explains how drama can be used to provide engaging contexts and effective strategies, that will support children as writers at KS2. The ways in which whole class drama can be structured, to provide reasons for talking and writing, for different purposes and audiences, will be considered. The possible roles and functions of the teacher will also be considered, e.g. teacher in (and out) of role, as model, guide, co-writer, editor, client, etc. Some links will be made between ‘Drama for Talk and Writing’ and Dorothy Heathcote’s ‘Mantle of the Expert’ approach.
A KS2 Drama lesson will be presented, a step at a time, with a particular focus on the talk and writing opportunities it offers.
