Aims

• To establish core principles in catering for the needs of beginner and advanced EAL learners
• To understand how rigorous assessment and planning informs effective teaching and learning
• To identify inclusive teaching and learning strategies to support different types of EAL learners within the mainstream
• To consider a range of low-cost and free print and ICT-based resources that help meet the needs of EAL learners across the curriculum

This training day offers a mixture of theory and practical activities:

• Introductory quiz
• Core principles – situation cards (paired/group activity)
• Reflection on an extract of video
• Assessment – baseline and formative
• Planning task
• Circus of resources
• Teaching and learning cross-curricular mini-case studies (group task)
• Action planning task
