Aim:
to develop practitioners’ knowledge and understanding of how young children learn to write
By the end of this course participants will:
• Have an improved understanding of the development of early writing from birth to 60 months
• Be able to observe, identify and assess significant details of children’s writing development
• Have been introduced to stimulating and developmentally appropriate writing opportunities for children in their play and through adult-led activities

Julie Cigman
Julie Cigman is an independent Early Years training consultant and writer. She was a Nursery teacher and then a reading intervention teacher in Oxford, contributing to the Learning Together programme for the Peers Early Education Partnership.
Julie was a Foundation Stage lead on a post-graduate Early Years teacher training course in Oxford, before working as an Early Years advisory teacher for Oxfordshire County Council, where she led a team on equalities, EAL and literacy.
Her books include, Becoming a Writer in Leaps and Bounds – supporting boys’ writing in the EYFS (2014) and Getting Boys Up and Running in the Early Years (Dec 2016)
