Description

This course is designed for all KS1 and KS2 teachers of mathematics and Subject Leaders.

The course will unpick the increased expectations for teaching fractions in KS2 and provide teachers with a deeper understanding of fractions and how to calculate with them.

Practical ideas and activities such as paper folding and the use of arrays will be explored to see how they can help children to de-mystify the often misunderstood mathematics of fractions.

Lynne Greenwood

Lynne was until recently, Senior Lecturer in Primary Mathematics Education at the University of Brighton, where she taught Mathematics Curriculum Studies on the BA and Post Graduate programmes and still works as a placement tutor supporting ITE students.
Lynne has 20+ years’ Primary experience across the primary phase in various roles, e.g. Deputy Head, Maths leader and Foundation Stage coordinator.
Lynne has been a Primary Mathematics consultant in various LAs, supporting subject leader development, book scrutinies and moderation sessions. Recent training has focussed on problem solving, conjecturing and generalising, developing mathematical talk and bar-modelling. She has been exploring ways to encourage all children, and teachers, to develop self-efficacy and resilience and see the relevance of maths in their everyday lives.
